Ron Howard took to Twitter to tease the upcoming Untitled Han Solo Movie, and he might have hinted at the inclusion of a pair of Star Wars EU characters.
Howard posted a selfie that features him standing beside two Imperial looking officers. He added the hashtag “#tagandbink?” which we will dissect below. Check out the tweet for yourselves:
In the former Expanded Universe canon, Tag and Bink were cult figures featured in comic series. The two characters were comedic, and their stories based in part from Tom Stoppard’s award-winning play Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. That story centered around the lives of two minor characters in the Shakespeare play Hamlet, which would add yet another Shakespearian reference to the Star Wars Saga.
Over the course of their adventures, the two hapless Rebels managed to cross paths with most of the main characters in both the Original and Prequel Trilogies. Seeing as the Han Solo spinoff is set between the two time periods, it makes sense that they could appear here, as well as the fact that the new trilogy and spinoff films have also been said to be drawing from the old Expanded Universe for content.
Would you be excited to see the Tag and Bink make an appearance in the Untitled Han Solo Movie and cross paths with our heroes? Sound off in the comments below!
The Untitled Han Solo Movie is directed by Ron Howard and stars Alden Ehrenreich as the titular character, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke as a character rumored to be named Kira, Woody Harrelson as Beckett – Solo’s mentor, Thandie Newton in an undisclosed role, and Joonas Suoatamo as Chewbacca.
Plot details on the film are currently sparse but the film is expected to meet its original release date of May 25th, 2018.
