Ron Howard Says A ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Sequel Is Not In Development

Ron Howard puts the breaks on those 'Solo' sequel rumors!

Director Ron Howard has confirmed that, despite ongoing rumors, a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently not in development.

Solo: A Star Wars Story was one of Disney owned Lucasfilm’s less successful stories. The film had several production issues that lead to the film’s original director’s being replaced by Ron Howard who had to reshoot much of the film, bumping up its budget to around $270M. While the film garnered mostly positive reviews, it was considered to be a box office bomb, only grossing $392M worldwide.

Fans, however, have come to enjoy Solo: A Star Wars Story and rumors began to spring up that a sequel was in development. It is unclear, however, if this sequel was going to be a Disney+ series or a theatrical release. Director Ron Howard has sadly put the breaks on these rumors.

While appearing on Radio Andy on SiriusXM, Ron Howard revealed that there is currently no sequel in development of any kind:

“Well, there’s no sequel planned now and it’s amazing to be a part of a Star Wars movie that seems to be a kind of underground hit, which is not what you’d expect, but that’s been an odd, strange journey for that movie.”

What did you all make of this rumor? Are you sad to hear that Disney and Lucasfilm are not planning a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Here is the official synopsis for Solo: A Star Wars Story:

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

Directed by Ron Howard from a script written by Lawrence Kasdan and son Jon Kasdan, the film stars Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, and Paul Bettany.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is now available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Star Wars and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
