Red Skull has had an interesting trajectory in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the 1940s, he was Hugo Weaving during Captain America: The First Avenger. And by the time you fast-forward to the future, he’s somehow transformed himself into Ross Marquand. But then, you could never tell under all that makeup. But while Marquand took over for Weaving in Avengers: Infinity War, there’s no telling just yet whether Captain America’s enemy will make an appearance in Avengers 4.
So how did this become part of the conversation? Well, on last night’s Talking Dead, where there was much to discuss in light of the recent death on the midseason finale of The Walking Dead, Ross Marquand discussed Aaron’s prosthetic arm and the similarities to Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet. And Robert Kirkman, also present, shushed Marquand when the question came up of whether his character would appear again next year in Avengers 4. Marquand’s brief words were as follows:
“I don’t know. I can’t answer that question. I really don’t know.”
What a grand statement, right? But yes, Marquand would probably be in league with the likes of Tom Holland, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Mark Ruffalo if he let a spoiler like that squeak by on television. No way the House of Mouse would stand for that. But then, Avengers 4 looks like it could be throwing in everybody as well as the kitchen sink if those characters weren’t already in Avengers: Infinity War. But then, would there be a use for Red Skull at this point? Seems that his purpose has already been served.
We already know about the level of secrecy taken for Infinity War, and given how the follow-up has not even had its title revealed yet, no doubt that secrecy will be consistent between films, especially one of this size. So right now, it’s anyone’s guess as to whether we’ll see Ross Marquand as Red Skull again going forward. But then, if he were to appear, would you want to see him have a rematch with Captain America? Assuming that Steve Rogers makes it out of Avengers 4 alive, anyway. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Even though we don’t know if Ross Marquand will be in Avengers 4, you can see him right now on The Walking Dead, which airs on Sunday nights at 9 P.M. on AMC and will return next February.
