‘Captain Marvel’ Could Include Kree Superhero Mar-Vell

Rumors suggest that Captain Marvel could feature two heroes that utilize the Captain Marvel moniker – Carol Danvers being the successor to Mar-Vell, just like it was in the comic books.

MCU Exchange has released an article claiming that Mar-Vell will be in Captain Marvel. According to their source – who apparently told them about the Children of Thanos and Steve Rogers resembling his Nomad identity in Avengers: Infinity War (both of which have since been proven true) – the original Captain Marvel called Mar-Vell will be making an appearance in the movie as a way of establishing that there’s a history to the identity Carol Danvers assumes. It’s worth noting that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has previously established that the Kree have been to Earth before, which suggests that fans will finally get a clear link between the MCU’s movies and television series, and one that was first established by a show to a movie and not the other way around.

But that’s not the only rumor that MCU Exchange has come across – they also note that they’ve heard that Carol Danvers will gain her powers through a reimagined version of the Psyche-Magnitron incident in the comics, and that she will have an outfit similar to the one she first wore before moving on to her modern look. They also speculate that since the movie is a 1990s-era period piece, the absence of Captain Marvel between the past of the MCU and the present day (late 2010s) will explain why we haven’t seen her earlier and why she isn’t in Avengers: Infinity War – and they believe that Quantum Realm from Ant-Man will play a part in that. Lastly, Danvers having Kree DNA will be used to explain why she hasn’t aged significantly between Captain Marvel and the untitled Avengers sequel.

As it stands, Captain Marvel is a ways away and won’t begin filming until the end of this year. But it’s not too early to get on the hype train, from the sound of things.

Captain Marvel is set to take flight on March 8, 2019. The movie’s cast includes Brie Larson as Carol Danvers and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Captain Marvel will also be making an appearance in the untitled fourth Avengers movie that will be released on May 3, 2019.
