RUMOR: Is Rick Famuyiwa Circling A DC Film?

Amidst all the shakeups at Warner Bros. and DC films, it is inevitable that we will be hearing of new directors that will be added to the ever-growing list of the “filmmaker-driven” regime for that includes Zack Snyder, David Ayer, Patty Jenkins, and James Wan. Seth Grahame-Smith was originally part of the slate, but has since departed The Flash due to creative differences.

Now, if this speculation is to be believed,  it looks like another potential filmmaker may potentially join that roster of DC Extended Universe directors. Rick Famuyiwa, director of the 2015 film Dope recently followed numerous accounts on Twitter that are related to the growing DCEU. Batman News reports that Famuyiwa followed these accounts in this order: DC Comics, Geoff Johns, Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot, Suicide Squad, Zack Snyder, Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher, and Jason Momoa. Johns, the recently appointed co-head of DC Films followed Famuyiwa back.

Remember, this is all rumors and speculation and nothing is official until Warner Bros. announces something concrete, but I find this chain of events to be quite intriguing. Let’s hypothetically imagine what Famuyiwa’s potential involvement with DC Films can be. With Cyborg, Shazam, Green Lantern Corps, and The Flash in need of directors, it is possible that he may be circling an opportunity to direct one of these films. If you were to ask me, I would see The Flash being a wonderful fit for this director. If you haven’t seen Dope, I highly recommend checking it out. In that film, Famuyiwa showcases that he has a kinetic energy that is infectious and he really fleshes out the characters quite well. The sensibilities I see in Dope would be wonderfully implemented to any upcoming DC movie but The Flash would be a good choice for him.
