Before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was announced at San Diego Comic-Con back in 2013, everyone assumed that we were going to see a few more Superman standalone movies after Man of Steel. However, it’s clear that those follow-ups were delayed in order to get to a Justice League ensemble movie as quickly as possible.
While doing the press rounds for The Nice Guys, Russell Crowe spoke with Digital Spy and revealed that there were indeed plans for more Man of Steel sequels before Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. decided to move forward with Batman v Superman. Here’s what he told the site:
“Originally — I could be completely wrong — I think there was a number of Superman movies. But I think they made the decision to jump past those and go to the idea of Batman and Superman in the same film. So, no, I didn’t have any discussions about that at all.”
While it currently doesn’t have a release date, another Superman standalone movie was announced a couple of years ago, so it’s safe to say that we’re probably going to see one in the near future. Back in April, Warner Bros. dated two more untitled DCEU movies, one of which is clearly Ben Affleck’s The Batman, so the other one could very well be a Man of Steel sequel.
