The sequel starts shooting in July.
Marvel Studios is still pushing ahead with Black Panther 2 even after the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman last year, and the sequel heads into production later this summer in Georgia, Atlanta. Director Ryan Coogler recently explained that he’ll continue to film in the state because pulling out of production would directly harm the very people who have fought against a controversial bill in the state.
And according to Production Weekly, Black Panther 2 will shoot under the working title Summer Break – which probably doesn’t connect to the story of the film whatsoever. Lupita Nyong’o recently teased that Ryan Coogler has some exciting ideas for the future of Wakanda, which will at the very least have to find a way of addressing the death of Chadwick Boseman in some way. Whether that’s by replacing T’Challa with another character or killing him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains to be seen.
What do you want to see from Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 2? Are you excited what Coogler has in store for the film? Sound-off in the comments below.
Here is the synopsis for the first film:
After the death of his father, the king of Wakanda, young T’Challa returns home to the isolated high-tech African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king – and Black Panther – is tested when he’s drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, he must release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.
