According to the trade, Coogler is set to begin writing the film next year with the intent of kicking off production on the project in late 2019 or early 2020.
Coogler directed the film which featured Boseman reprising his role as T’Challa in his character’s first standalone film after his introduction in Captain America: Civil War. The film followed the King of Wakanda as he returned home to face a threat from within and managed $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, ranking as the ninth highest-grossing film of all time globally.
A release date for the sequel has not yet been set. Although Black Panther faded to dust after Thanos’ infamous snap in Avengers: Infinity War, the character is expected to return in the untitled fourth Avengers installment in addition to his sequel.
“A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.”
