Director Ryan Coogler recently spoke about the possibility of an all-female sequel to Black Panther and it seems like he's down with the idea.
Variety’s Ramin Setoodeh caught up with Coogler at the Cannes Film Festival and the two discussed an all-female sequel to Black Panther. I’ve been saying for a while that if you gave Shuri (Letitia Wright) her own suit and gave her a franchise, no one would be upset. In fact, Shuri teaming with Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Okoye (Danai Gurira) sounds incredibly exciting. Either way, it seems like Coogler would be down to make this movie.
Black Panther is a film with so many rich characters to mine from, with a cast that consists of great actors playing incredible characters. The world of Wakanda is so expansive that it could have an entire cinematic universe within itself. That being said, we have no idea what Marvel has planned for the next phase of movies. We know we’re getting another Spider-Man movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. and a Black Panther sequel at some point. Other than those, the possibilities are endless.
A Dora Milaje film could be on the horizon or even the Shuri-led film that I mentioned above could be in development, but if Marvel has taught us anything it’s to expect the unexpected. Would you be excited for an all-female Black Panther sequel? Let us know in the comments below!
