Did Ryan Reynolds Just Confirm Deadpool Is Part Of Marvel Studios’ Phase 5?

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds may have just confirmed that the Merc with the Mouth’s next cinematic solo outing will be part of Marvel Studios’ Phase 5.

Thanks to Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets, Marvel Studios now holds the rights to Deadpool and the X-Men, as well as the Fantastic Four. Deadpool was missing from Marvel’s Phase 4 announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, but studio head Kevin Feige did promise that the mutants are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Deadpool spent several years in development hell before 20th Century Fox decided to move forward with the movie after seeing the reaction to leaked test footage for the project. That leak happened five years ago today, and details on Deadpool’s future are currently under wraps after the Disney-Fox merger. However, Ryan Reynolds may have confirmed that Deadpool will be part of Marvel Studios’ Phase 5 in an Instagram post poking fun at the Deadpool leak on its fifth anniversary.

Ryan Reynolds specifically mentioning “Phase 5” is the reason fans are speculating that the actor is teasing when Deadpool will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with this Instagram post. Plus, Disney CEO Bob Iger has previously said that the studio plans to continue making Deadpool movies.

The current Marvel Studios Phase 4 slate consists of Black Widow, The Eternals, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, WandaVision, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Loki, What If…?, Hawkeye and Thor: Love and Thunder. The studio is also developing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, Blade and new Fantastic Four and X-Men movies for Phase 5 and beyond.

Ryan Reynolds was last seen as the Merc with the Mouth in Deadpool 2. Directed by David Leith from a script written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool 2 also stars Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jack Kesy.

Deadpool 2 is available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for the latest news on Deadpool’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
