After reports of a potential Fox and Disney merger emerge online, 'Deadpool' star Ryan Reynolds takes to Twitter to share his thoughts.
With Deadpool 2 having recently wrapped filming, any potential merger of the two major studios would not likely have any impact on that particular film, but would certainly raise questions as to where the future of this R-rated franchise would be headed under the Disney umbrella. Here’s what Ryan Reynolds had to say on the matter.
It’s a valid question, and one that had Marvel fans pondering a hypothetical scenario in which Disney had creative control over the Deadpool and other X-Men properties. At least for a moment, the idea of seeing these characters becoming a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe went from completely impossible to somewhat viable.
With the reports of how much Ryan Reynolds fought for Deadpool to have that R-rating in the first place, it would stand to reason that he would be opposed to the idea of having a Disney-fied version of the character. While it’s possible that Disney would continue to allow some variety in the comic book movie landscape by making more R-rated films in the genre, history has shown us the company’s tendency to lean heavily towards the PG-13 domain.
Do you think Deadpool could work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if the Fox and Disney deal should ever happen, or would you prefer they remain separate? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
