Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes is in talks to direct a live-action adaptation of Disney's animated classic, 'Pinocchio'.
Chris Weitz, whose screenwriting credits include Disney’s live-action adaptation of Cinderella and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story penned the first version of this film’s script. Pinocchio will also be produced within Weitz’s production company, Depth of Field.
As for Sam Mendes, his credits include the films American Beauty (for which he won an Academy Award for Best Director), Road to Perdition, Revolutionary Road, Away We Go and most recently, the last two Daniel Craig 007 films Skyfall and Spectre.
Sam Mendes was previously linked to a live-action adaptation of Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach, but has now left that project to potentially sign on for Pinocchio instead.
If Sam Mendes ends up directing Pinocchio, this will be a huge win for Disney. Having an Academy Award-winning director behind the camera on one of your upcoming live-action adaptations could lead to a truly creative vision of this iconic story.
