‘The Flash’: Sam Raimi & Marc Webb Pass On Directing

Entertainment Weekly has revealed that both Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man directors Sam Raimi and Marc Webb have passed on directing the upcoming feature film of The Flash starring Ezra Miller.

Yesterday, Raimi along with Robert Zemeckis and Matthew Vaughn emerged as the frontrunners to direct the film but in addition to losing Billy Crudup as Henry Allen, the father of the Scarlet Speedster, the magazine also revealed this morning that a source close to the project has said that both Raimi and Webb have passed on the gig.

The project now long in development has stalled since director Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) exited the Warner Bros. production, citing creative differences between him and the studio as the reason for his departure. Famuyiwa was hired to replace Seth Grahame-Smith who penned the original script and also exited the project due to creative differences. Before that, The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were attached to direct. Lord and Miller had developed the story for the film, however. The pair left to direct the upcoming Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story.

Famuyiwa also penned the latest draft of the script, however, the studio was not satisfied with his direction resulting in Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) being hired to do a page-one rewrite in January.

Miller and Kiersey Clemons remain committed to star as the titular hero and his love interest Iris West and fortunately, we will also get to see Miller return as The Flash who was first introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice later this year when he appears in the epic superhero team-up flick Justice League directed by Zack Snyder.

Remaining on the shortlist to direct The Flash is Zemeckis and Vaughn. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on The Flash as we learn it.
