Sam Raimi Confirms A New ‘Evil Dead’ Film Is In Development

Evil Dead Sam RaimiOriginal Evil Dead director Sam Raimi has confirmed that a new film for the long-running horror franchise is in development.

During this year’s New York Comic Con, Sam Raimi was promoting the upcoming reboot of The Grudge, which he is co-producing. While at the convention, the director confirmed that there, in fact, was another Evil Dead film in development with a new director:

“There’s more Evil Dead coming.”

The last time we saw Evil Dead on the big screen was the 2013 reboot of the same name which Sam Raimi also produced. The film was, ultimately, a box office success but drew mixed reviews from audiences and critics. Despite an after-credits ending that teased a connection to the original series a direct sequel never materialized.

The Evil Dead franchise would be revived once more for the Starz television show, Ash vs. The Evil Dead with Sam Raimi serving as an executive producer on the series. Franchise star Bruce Cambell reprised his role as Ash but the series was ultimately canceled after three seasons. Bruce Cambell has since retired from the role and will not be reprising it for the upcoming film. He will, however, return for a producer role. Currently, Sam Raimi has not revealed any additional details on the upcoming film.

What do you all make of this? Are you excited to hear that Sam Raimi is developing a new Evil Dead film? Do you think the franchise should have ended after Ash vs. Evil Dead? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
