New concept art for Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson may reveal a huge spoiler for Samuel L Jackson who has served as the connective tissue between films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since it began with Iron Man in 2008.
Marvel Studios is set to feature a younger (de-aged) version of Samuel L Jackson alongside Brie Larson in the film that hits theaters this coming Friday. Brie Larson stars in Marvel’s first-ever female-led superhero film which is set in the 90s and serves as an origin story for Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel: a test pilot in the comics who gained super strength and the ability to fly after being caught in an explosion with a Kree device.
Not only that, the film will feature the MCU’s debut of The Skrulls as well, an advanced shapeshifting alien race known for the Kree-Skrull War in the comics. Now here’s where the possible spoiler comes in. Ever since Marvel announced Captain Marvel would feature the Skrulls, and that Samuel L Jackson would be boarding the cast, fans have speculated that Nick Fury himself could be a Skrull. Well, new concept art from the upcoming film has surfaced suggesting this could actually be a possibility, or at the very least, a Skrull will take on the likeness of Samuel L Jackson’s character at some point in the film. Mississipi Grind helmers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have directed from a script written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve. Here’s the official synopsis:
Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.
Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Gregg and Jude Law. The film is slated to hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
Following her debut in her titular standalone film, Brie Larson will return to face Thanos in April when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26, 2019, however, it remains unclear as to whether or not Samuel L Jackson will appear.
Plot details are still under wraps but the Avengers are expected to attempt to undo Thanos’ snap which gave way to the decimation of half of the Universe after the heroes failed to stop the Mad Titan from collecting all six Infinity Stones in Avengers: Infinity War. The highly-anticipated Avengers: Infinity War follow-up will conclude the previous 22 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe before Marvel kicks off Phase 4 with Spider-Man: Far From Home in July.
