While doing press for Glass, Samuel L. Jackson took some time to respond to IGN comments. Like a prior video he did for Wired, the questions ranged throughout Jackson’s career as an actor and various films he’s been in, such as Deep Blue Sea and Unbreakable. Though this was Glass-specific, a good number of the comments — “Avenger Remastered,” whether Glass takes place before or after Infinity War, and Nick Fury recruiting Mr. Glass and Frozone to join the Avengers — circled back to Jackson’s work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
When one comment quotes Nick Fury’s line about there being an idea — the Avengers Initiative — Jackson broke from the quote and reminded the viewers that they “have to get past the Avengers and Marvel sh*t at some point. Other f****** people make movies!” You can watch Jackson point this out to the hardcore Marvel fans in the video below at the 2:33 mark.
Admittedly, yes, there’s probably a certain section of fans, particularly if their first movie was Iron Man, who have the Marvel films on the brain 24/7. This isn’t exclusive to Marvel specifically, and can apply to many areas of geek culture. But considering the extensive filmography of Samuel L. Jackson, not to mention that Glass isn’t tied to the Avengers or Marvel world at all, one would think that people even vaguely familiar with the actor would know he’s not just Nick Fury.
But then, who can say? Perhaps some people only see the Marvel films and just see Jackson as Nick Fury. But what do you think of Samuel L. Jackson’s words? Should the obsessed Marvel fans start seeing movies that don’t have to do with comic books? Perish the thought, right? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
And while you can see Jackson later this year as Nick Fury in Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home, you can see him now in Glass, which is not an MCU movie.
