Saw Gerrera Could Return For More ‘Star Wars’ Projects

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has revealed that Saw Gerrera could eventually return in more future Star Wars projects.

Saw Gerrera is a character that was introduced in the fifth season of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but eventually made the leap to live-action in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, where he was played by Forest Whitaker. However, Saw’s role in that movie apparently wasn’t as big as the people behind Lucasfilm had hoped.

In Empire’s recent complete history of Rogue One article, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy reveals that Saw originally had a much larger role in the Gareth Edwards-directed Star Wars spin-off, but that then changed. But, Kennedy also mentioned that they plan to explore the character “even further” in the future:

“To be honest, we originally thought we were going to develop Saw into something much larger, but we couldn’t accommodate it. So he is not in the movie as much as we would like to have him in the movie, which creates the opportunity to explore his character even further in our future development.”

The magazine also had the chance to speak with Whitaker, who added:

“I’m curious about what else they’re about to do. Because they seem to really like the character, which is great!”

We already know that Saw will make an appearance on Star Wars Rebels, with Whitaker returning to provide the voice for the character. He will make his debut on “Star Wars Rebels: Ghosts of Geonosis, Parts One and Two,” which will premiere on January 7th at 8:30-9:30 p.m. EST on Disney XD. Besides that, Saw’s future remains up in the air.
