Disney Delays Release Of Scarlett Johansson’s ‘Black Widow’

Disney has officially delayed the release date of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow amid the coronavirus pandemic.

As efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus increase across the world, movie theaters are closing as a precautionary measure and studios are delaying the release of tentpole films amid a changing global market. While Disney had postponed upcoming films such as Mulan and The New Mutants due to the coronavirus pandemic, Marvel Studios’ Black Widow remained on track for a May 2020 theatrical release until now.

Originally scheduled to be released on May 1, 2020, Disney has pushed the debut of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow to a “future date to be determined.” Furthermore, Disney has pulled Searchlight’s The Personal History of David Copperfield and 20th Century Studios’ The Woman in the Window from their respective May 8 and April 15 release dates.

The Scarlett Johansson film joins several other films that were originally scheduled for release within the next two months only to be pushed back due to the coronavirus crisis. Daniel Craig’s No Time to Die was one of the first major projects to be postponed, moving from April to November, with notable projects such as A Quiet Place Part II and Fast and Furious 9 following soon after.

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Directed by Cate Shortland from a script written by Eric Pearson based on a story by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson, Marvel Studios’ Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, Ray Winstone, Olivier Richters, and Rachel Weisz.

Black Widow will be released in theaters on May 1, 2020.
