Scarlett Johansson Says Black Widow Is Her Favorite Movie Role

Scarlett Johansson was recently named the highest-grossing actress of all-time, which isn’t all that surprising considering the amount of movies she’s been in over the years. For us, she’s best known for portraying Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it looks like that’s actually her favorite character she has played in her career.

Speaking with Michigan Avenue at the SAIC Gene Siskel Film Center Renaissance Award 2016 gala, Scarlett Johansson discussed why she enjoys playing the character so much:

“It’s difficult! I really like playing Natasha; playing the Black Widow [in The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War]. It’s been an interesting journey, to take a character and grow it over these years, and peel the layers back and be able to, as you do in life, grow with this person. It’s a character that’s really enigmatic and has an amazing origins story, so there’s a lot for me to play off of.”

Many fans have been clamoring for a Black Widow solo movie for quite a while now, but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen anytime soon. When asked about why she thinks the character resonates with moviegoers, the actress had the following to say:

“People like the puzzle pieces. It’s part of the fun of the Marvel franchise. They like to see these little pieces come together, and [discover] little references that they knew from the comics and stuff, so it’s fun. I like that.”

Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow was last seen in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, but we still don’t know when she’ll return to the big screen. Our best guess would be in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, but she could also show up in another Phase 3 movie before that. What do you guys think?
