As Black Widow gears up for her solo cinematic debut later this year, Marvel fans have been wondering who will be the director of photography for Scarlett Johansson’s solo outing as the Russian spy. According to Collider, Black Widow was shot by Gabriel Beristain. In the latest trailer for Black Widow, which debuted earlier this week, many were surprised to see that a cinematographer was not listed during the credits block.
Gabriel Beristain should be a familiar name to some Marvel fans, as he’s previously served as an additional photographer for films such as Iron Man, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Thor:Ragnarok. Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow will be Gabriel Beristain’s first cinematography credit for the Marvel franchise.
Originally, Rob Hardy, who shot Ex Machina was set to film Black Widow, but something along the way didn’t work out. What’s odd is that neither Rob Hardy or Gabriel Beristain are credited as the director of photography for the upcoming Scarlett Johansson film, though Collider is adamant that Gabriel Beristain did take the job on. It’s unclear as to why Rob Hardy left Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, but it’s good to know that Scarlett Johansson’s film is set to have veteran in the form on Gabriel Beristain on its team.
