Comic-Con: Scarlett Johansson’s ‘Black Widow’ Gets May 2020 Release Date

Scarlett Johansson’s long-awaited Black Widow movie is hitting theaters on May 1, 2020, Marvel Studios announced on Saturday.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed the official release date of the Black Widow movie at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Its cast includes Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle and Rachel Weisz.

Taskmaster is the main villain of the Black Widow movie. Created by David Michelinie and George Pérez, Taskmaster is classic Marvel Comics villain with the ability to replicate the combat skills of anyone he observes. Taskmaster made his debut in The Avengers #195, which was published in May 1980.

Black Widow is being directed by Cate Shortland from a script written by Ned Benson and Jac Schaeffer. Filming is already underway and footage from the movie was shown during the studio’s Hall H presentation at Comic-Con.

Plot details are still under wraps but the film is expected to spotlight events prior to the Scarlett Johansson’s debut as Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2. In the comics, Natasha Romanoff was trained by the Winter Soldier himself, Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan in the MCU though there have been no rumors of him appearing in the film.

Scarlett Johansson can currently be seen as Black Widow in Avengers: Endgame. Here is the plot synopsis for that movie:

A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Paul Rudd, Jeremy Renner, Brie Larson, Josh Brolin and Chris Pratt.
