Scarlett Johansson Black Widow Movie Being Rewritten Last Minute

Collider reports Marvel’s standalone Black Widow film starring Scarlett Johansson has tapped Ned Benson to rewrite the script just months before production is set to begin.

The project which will put the spotlight on Scarlett Johannson as Natasha Romanoff was recently reported to have been pushed filming back to June after being expected to go before the lens this month. Marvel Studios was reportedly impressed with Benson’s work on The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby and will now rewrite the script for the studio. Jac Schaeffer had written the previous draft of the script. She’s best known for writing Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, and the 2009 sci-fi romance TiMER which she also directed.

Cate Shortland (Lore) is directing the standalone film centered on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most popular female character played by Scarlett Johansson. Official plot details remain under wraps, however, the film is expected to spotlight events that occurred prior to the Scarlett Johannson’s debut as Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2. In the comics, Natasha Romanoff was trained by the Winter Soldier himself, Bucky Barnes played by Sebastian Stan in the films. Rumors have swirled that Marvel was planning to make Black Widow the studio’s first R-rated comic book film, however, this has yet to be confirmed.

Production on the project is now expected to begin this June under the working title “Blue Bayou.” Scarlett Johansson will next be seen in Avengers: Endgame.
