Scarlett Johansson Explains Why The Black Widow Suit Was Daunting

Reflecting on the first time she put on the Black Widow suit, Scarlett Johansson sat down with Bravo for “Inside the Actors Studio” and explained that it wasn’t just the suit itself that was daunting, it was also what it represented.

“Who wants to get into something like that. You just think, ‘Oh God, really?’ Couldn’t it have like, I don’t know, some sort of a little peplum skirt or something like that. I mean, this thing is so like, there you are, but it was also everything it represented. I mean, the character was so beloved. Obviously she’s kind of the first Marvel super heroine. She’s an iconic character. And I didn’t know how people were going to take that. The part had already been recast and maybe they’d already accepted the other actor in that part. I mean, what the hell was I doing? It was daunting.”

With her continuing to reprise her role as Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff) in movies such as Avengers: Infinity War, Johansson will be mostly likely donning the suit a few more times, and that’s not to say anything of the potential Black Widow movie that’s been asked for and teased for years. At this point though, Johansson is synonymous with the character and it’s probably difficult for fans to imagine anyone else in the role.

Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, Cobie Smulders, Benicio Del Toro, Benedict Wong, Danai Gurira, and Josh Brolin, is slated to open in theaters on Friday, May 4, 2018.
