‘Doctor Strange 2’: Scott Derrickson Talks Possibilities For Movie

Doctor Strange will finally make its way to Blu-Ray in a little over a month, but the Sorcerer Supreme’s first outing isn’t the only thing on director Scott Derrickson’s mind. Sitting down with ComingSoon.net, Derrickson spoke about the direction Doctor Strange 2 could potentially take.

When asked about the possibility of the comics’ more supernatural horror elements making their way into the second film, Derrickson had this to say:

“I wouldn’t necessarily rule anything out. That’s certainly where the comics went in the ’80s but I also think that was probably the weakest era of the comics. The alternate dimensions and possibilities of the multiverse that we set up with the first film already give limitless possibilities. What I will say is that the goal would not be to underutilize that, or to create something that was less innovative than the first ‘Doctor Strange.’ The comics, especially the Lee/Ditko comics, were always pushing into unexpectedly weird places and storylines. That has continued on into the current Doctor Strange comics, which are really great. So anything’s possible with Doctor Strange, I wouldn’t rule anything out.”

While Derrickson is ultimately non-committal, his comments do suggest that he sees a lot of potential in the multiverse the first movie began to explore. As with most things, however, and especially with a character like Doctor Strange, Derrickson did leave the door open by admitting that “anything’s possible.”

Doctor Strange will be released on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, Digital SD, DVD and On Demand on February 28, 2017. In the meantime, Strange will next be seen in Thor: Ragnarok, which hits theaters November 3, 2017.
