James Bond Star Sean Connery Dies At 90

The original James Bond has passed away.

Sir Sean Connery, the Scottish-born actor who was the first man to bring James Bond to life on the big screen, has died at the age of 90.

BBC has revealed that Sean Connery has passed away. The report was confirmed by Connery’s son, Jason, who said that the legendary James Bond actor died peacefully in his sleep after having been “unwell for some time.”

Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers behind the James Bond films, shared a statement regarding Sean Connery’s passing:

“We are devastated by the news of the passing of Sir Sean Connery. He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words. The name’s Bond… James Bond” — he revolutionised the world with his gritty and witty portrayal of the sexy and charismatic secret agent. He is undoubtedly largely responsible for the success of the film series and we shall be forever grateful to him.”

Meanwhile, James Bond actor Daniel Craig shared the following about Sean Connery:

“It is with such sadness that I heard of the passing of one of the true greats of cinema. Sir Sean Connery will be remembered as Bond and so much more. He defined an era and a style. The wit and charm he portrayed on screen could be measured in mega watts; he helped create the modern blockbuster. He will continue to influence actors and film-makers alike for years to come. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. Wherever he is, I hope there is a golf course.”

Born on August 25, 1930, Sean Connery had a long and illustrious career that spanned decades and included an Academy Award for his role in 1987’s The Untouchables. The actor was best known for his work as James Bond, having played the iconic superspy in seven films beginning with 1962’s Dr. No. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000.

Sean Connery is survived by his second wife Micheline Roquebrune, as well as his son Jason and grandson Dashiell. He will be missed.
