Sean Gunn Doesn’t Know If He’s In James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ Yet

Guardians of the Galaxy actor Sean Gunn is unsure if he’ll be appearing in James Gunn’s upcoming movie The Suicide Squad.

Sean Gunn plays Kraglin in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy and it’s sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. That isn’t Sean Gunn’s only role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe though. The actor also played the on-set substitute for the CGI-character Rocket Raccoon in both Guardians of the Galaxy films, as well as the two most recent Avengers films, Infinity War and Endgame.

James Gunn was removed as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 last summer, following the resurgence of a series of controversial social media posts that the director made years prior. Since then, James Gunn has been hired to write and direct the upcoming DC Extended Universe film The Suicide Squad. To the excitement of many Marvel fans, he has also been re-hired as writer/director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will head into production when James Gunn is done with The Suicide Squad.

The Suicide Squad is slated for release in 2021 and according to Sean Gunn, he has yet to find out if he’ll be making an appearance in the film. This is what the actor had to say about the topic during a recent interview with ComicBook.com.

“You know, I have no idea.”

Although he isn’t sure if he’ll appear in the film yet, Sean Gunn is definitely up for appearing in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

“I’m always willing to do anything he [James] needs me to do. I’m also very, very respectful of the creative process from the point of view of the people who are writing and coming up with the story. I’ve been in the business long enough to know that story is king.”

Sean Gunn explained why he’d rather have James Gunn worry about The Suicide Squad‘s story and not fitting him into it.

“You know, in order for the movie to be good, the story has to be great, and it’s hard to make a great story if you’re thinking, ‘Hmm, I have to work this person in there somewhere.'”

The actor further discussed why he’s so respectful of James Gunn’s creative process.

“So I just let him do his thing. If he has a role for me, to let me know and I’ll do it. And if he doesn’t, I have no doubt that it’s because he’s serving a different kind of story where there is not a role for me and I’m totally respectful of that too.”

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding The Suicide Squad as soon as more information becomes available. What role would you like to see Sean Gunn play in the film?
