HBO Max’s Green Lantern series has found its showrunner in Seth Grahame-Smith, the novelist-turned-writer known for his work on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and The Lego Batman Movie. Grahame-Smith is also is also co-writing the Green Lantern pilot with Arrowverse veteran Marc Guggenheim, with Greg Berlanti and Geoff Johns on board as producers.
The Green Lantern series has landed a 10-episode straight-to-series order at HBO Max. It is set to feature classic DC Comics characters like Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz and Alan Scott, as well as the hero-turned-villain Sinestro.
A Green Lantern Corps movie is also currently in development with Geoff Johns on board as a writer and producer. Full details on the projectCorps are being kept under lock and key, though the project will draw inspiration from Johns’ work on the comics with both Hal Jordan and John Stewart set to appear.
In addition to the Green Lantern and Justice League Dark projects, HBO Max is developing a Strange Adventures DC anthology series and a DC Super Hero High show from Elizabeth Banks. News of the Green Lantern series arrived shortly after reports of HBO Max planning to produce DC projects with budgets on par with those of feature films.
