DC Comics writer and inker Jerry Ordway was so inspired by the upcoming production of Shazam! that he posted new artwork of Billy Batson and his alter-ego.
Ordway released the new piece of uncolored art on his Twitter account New Year’s Day. The dynamic front cover depicts Shazam, smiling ear-to-ear, in flight while a lightning storm stirs behind him. On the back, we see the young Billy Batson becoming his superheroic alter-ego in front of a smoke and lightning.
You can check out the artwork below.
Ordway tagged Shazam! director David F. Sandberg in the post, as well as actor Zachary Levi, who is currently in Toronto prepping for the role. It’s a fine piece of artwork and goes to show that there is growing excitement to bring the character, who was created in 1939, to life on the big screen.
David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) is directing from a script written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. Production on the project is expected to kick off early next year at Pinewood Studios Toronto. The film is being produced by New Line Cinema in conjunction with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. Shazam! is a DC Comics character who first debuted in 1939 with the original name of Captain Marvel. Created by C.C. Beck and writer Bill Parker, the character was first published by Fawcett Comics.
The film stars Zachary Levi as the titular superhero, Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Grace Fulton as Mary Marvel, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freedman, Ian Chen as Eugene, Jovan Armand as Pedro, and Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana.
