‘Shazam!’ Star Asher Angel Reveals His Favorite Superman

We recently had the chance to sit down with Asher Angel and chat with him about all things Shazam!, Superman and whether Henry Cavill is his favorite Man of Steel.

Shazam! just dropped in theaters this weekend and it’s making bank. The superhero epic has loads of fun and heart that easily makes it the best DC film to date. The film finds a way to incorporate Henry Cavill’s Superman in the most genius fashion that doesn’t actually include Henry Cavill himself. Shazam! star Asher Angel happens to be a huge Superman fan and we found that out during a recent interview with the actor.

“I grew up idolizing Superman. Superman was like big. That was my favorite superhero. I would dress up like him for Halloween.”

Asher Angel then went on to tell us his favorite Superman is and his answer probably won’t shock you.

“Henry Cavill is my favorite Superman.”

Henry Cavill is no longer contracted to appear in other DCEU related films as he reportedly walked away from negotiations to cameo in Shazam! with Zachary Levi due to scheduling conflicts. Henry Cavill’s Superman would make a great tutor for Zachary Levi’s Shazam due to the fact that Billy Batson’s only a kid with superpowers and Clark Kent’s been around to face several enemies like General Zod, Lex Luthor, Doomsday, and even Batman.

As you may know, Henry Cavill’s been very busy filming Justice League, Mission: Impossible and Netflix’s The Witcher for the past few years, so he probably didn’t have the time to make an appearance in Zachary Levi’s Shazam!. Although the rumor now points out that this wasn’t a problem for DC and Warner Bros. and that Henry Cavill as Superman will indeed meet Asher Angel and Zachary Levi’s Shazam soon.

What do you think about Asher Angel and his favorite Superhero? Is Henry Cavill your favorite Superman as well? Did you like how Henry Cavill’s Superman was included in Shazam!? Sound off in the comments section below.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Ron Cephas Jones. Here is the plot synopsis for Shazam!:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Shazam! is now playing in theaters!
