‘Shazam!’ Director David. F. Sandberg On The Appeal Of Helming Film

'Shazam!' director David F. Sandberg re-confirmed that he will helm the project and explained what drew him towards the film.

Yesterday, Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg officially confirmed that he will be directing DC’s Shazam! film. Now, Sandberg discussed what appeals to him about the project during an interview with IGN.

Sandberg once again confirmed the reports that he will direct the film:

“I’m very happy to say that is true and it’s really awesome. I’m really looking forward to it.”

With his previous projects involving children in lead roles, Sandberg explained that part of the appeal about Shazam! was how the concept was the “ultimate wish fulfillment” for kids:

“Yeah, just because it’s the ultimate wish fulfillment, you know? Every kid wants to be Superman and here’s the kid who gets the chance to be Superman and, you know, finds out that it could also be a challenge.”

Best known for his horror films, Sandberg expressed his excitement over venturing into a different genre.

“I definitely plan on doing more horror […] but it’ll be fun to try something that’s a little bit different.”
