Shazam! director David F. Sandberg has confirmed what name the wizard will go by in the upcoming standalone superhero film.

Shazam! director David F. Sandberg has confirmed what name the wizard will go by in the upcoming standalone superhero film.

Luke Cage actor Ron Cephas Jones is in talks to join the cast of the New Line and DC production as the character as the wizard Shazam, and the movie will be referring to the character as Shazam in the film. Sandberg confirmed this after a fan complained about the way the character was being referred to in the press when it was revealed Jones was in talks for the role. You can check out Sandberg’s response below.

Shazam! follows Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a teenager who is granted the ability to say the word “Shazam,” and transform into an adult superhero with the power of six mythological gods. Sandberg is directing the film from a script by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. Shazam! is being produced by New Line Cinema in conjunction with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.

The film stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Grace Fulton as Mary Marvel, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freedman, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen as Eugene, Jovan Armand as Pedro, and Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana.

Shazam! is slated to hit theaters April 5, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the project and the future of DC Films as we learn it.
