As revealed by Daniel Richtman, a writer for SuperBroMovies and a reliable source of information regarding these kind of things, Shazam! fans can expect to see a new trailer for the hero’s highly-anticipated big screen solo adventure on January 19, 2019. Shazam! star Zachary Levi teased the trailer last month while revealing a poster for the upcoming movie, featuring himself in full costume.
The film’s first trailer made its debut at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con alongside sneak peeks at two other DC Extended Universe entries, Aquaman and Wonder Woman 1984. Shazam! won’t be out until this April, but Aquaman was released in theaters last month and is currently on track to become DC’s biggest hit since 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Faithe Herman, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou. Here’s the film’s synopsis:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
Shazam! opens in theaters next year on April 5, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for more updates on the movie and the rest of the DC Extended Universe.
