While we wait for more footage and a new trailer of David F. Sandberg’s Shazam!, Zachary Levi, Jack Dylan Grazer and Asher Angel took the spotlight for a while and did a mock-up Q&A for Nickelodeon’s Orange Carpet event during the Kids Choice Awards which will air this Saturday, March 23. Dylan Grazer acted as the interviewer with Zachary Levi and Asher Angel answering questions to see who knew more about Shazam’s history and eventually who the real star of the movie is:
After watching the video, Zachary Levi obviously did his research while Asher Angel was a bit behind his homework. The Shazam meaning is kind of a given at this point since they’re interpreting former Captain Marvel and Billy Batson at the same time. But when asked who was more popular Shazam or Superman, Levi answered it was Shazam leaving Angel dumbfounded.
Zachary Levi’s answer isn’t far fetched at all. Superman was released in 1938 by Action Comics while Shazam (Captain Marvel at the time) saw his first pages during 1939 in Fawcett Comics, but both were actually very popular at the time. Superman obviously outgrew Shazam in the popular zeitgeist years later while Shazam was really known by die-hard DC fans. Nevertheless, he will have a shot at increasing his popularity this time around when the film releases in april.

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Asher Angel, Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Faithe Herman, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.
The film will hit theaters next year on April 5, 2019.
