Levi’s portrayal from the trailers alone has already received praise from fans of the character, as he portrays the superhero alter ego of young Billy Batson (Asher Angel) in a film that certainly borrows the heart and spirit of the Tom Hanks comedy, Big. The childlike nature of this film is part of why Levi is so passionate about the project.
While taking over Entertainment Weekly’s Instagram story at New York Comic Con, Levi described the upcoming film in three words:
“The movie of Shazam! in three words is fun, exciting [and] heartfelt.”
Levi was also asked about his favorite superpower he possesses as the character. Although he loves all of them, he singled this one out:
“Flight, because I like flying.”
Hopefully, Levi is able to exhibit his powers of flight better than he does in the trailer. As we all saw, he attempted to take flight – only to fall on his back. It’s going to be a fun road for Levi and the rest of the cast before Shazam! arrives.
Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Grace Fulton, Jack Dylan Grazer, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Djimon Honsou and Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana. Here’s the official synopsis:
“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”
Shazam! hits theaters on April 5, 2019.
