Adam McKay recently expressed interest in directing a Silver Surfer movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Director Adam McKay made his MCU debut with 2015’s Ant-Man. After director Edgar Wright left the director’s chair, the Vice director was approached to take over. He turned the opportunity down but being such a fan of Marvel growing up, he decided to team up with Paul Rudd to re-write the script for director Peyton Reed.
MTV’s Josh Horowitz recently had Adam McKay on his podcast Happy Sad Confused and near the end of the show, the director talked a bit about working with Marvel. When he was asked about a Marvel movie that he’d like to direct, McKay revealed that he’d be interested in bringing Silver Surfer to the big screen.
“Silver Surfer’s the one I want to do, man. I would do anything to do Silver Surfer because visually that would just be… like you could do what the Wachowskis did with Speed Racer with the Silver Surfer.
Yet at the same time, there’s a great, emotional story in there, man. Where the guy has to make the choice to save his planet. You know, Norrin Radd has to like save his planet that… that would be the one but I think Fox owns the rights, I don’t think it’s Marvel.”
After Horowitz corrected McKay and told him that the rights for Silver Surfer are back with Marvel, the director joked about calling up Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and getting started on the project. Hopefully, this plan comes to fruition but nothing has been officially announced as of now.
