‘Deadpool 2’ Will Start Filming Early Next Year

Earlier this year, Tim Miller’s Deadpool took everyone by surprise when it decimated a number of box office records during its theatrical run, something which it managed to accomplish with the help of a fantastic marketing campaign and positive word of mouth. While it currently doesn’t have a release date, a follow-up is already in the works and it sounds like 20th Century Fox hopes to get the cameras rolling as soon as possible.

While speaking with Collider at the 42nd Annual Saturn Awards, producer Simon Kinberg provided an update on the status of the highly anticipated sequel:

“The guys, [Paul] Wernick and [Rhett] Reese, are working on the script, and we hope to have a script very soon. We hope to shoot the movie sometime at the beginning of next year.”

The producer also commented on the box office performance of Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, which some may find disappointing compared to a few of the previous entries in their lucrative X-Men franchise:

“The truth is Days of Future Past is sort of an outlier for an X-Men movie. We’d never made more than $500 million before, and Days was kind of like our Avengers, where we brought this sort of mega-cast together. We hoped this movie would do the same as Days of Future Past, but we had a feeling that maybe it would, maybe it wouldn’t. It’s a different kind of film than Days of Future Past.”

Lastly, Kinberg addressed the secrecy surrounding James Mangold’s R-Rated follow-up to The Wolverine, which is currently shooting in New Orleans:

“I can only tell you that it’s going extremely well and that’s about all I will tell you about it. We want it to be discovered the way that we used to watch movies a long time ago when you didn’t know everything about them before you went to go see them. I think that’s just the reality of the world now. We know photos are going to get out, and we also hope or know that people are savvy enough to know that the photos they see that are candids or paparazzi shots are different than what it look like through the camera, so we just live with it.”

What do you guys think? Are you looking forward to the yet-to-be titled Deadpool 2 and Wolverine 3? Be sure to sound-off your thoughts in the comment section below.
