Simon Pegg’s ‘Star Wars’ Role Made Him Sweat A Lot

Simon Pegg recently revealed that his role as the junk dealer Unkar Plutt in Star Wars: The Force Awakens made him sweat quite a bit.

Being in a Star Wars film is a dream come true, but by design, many Star Wars roles require actors to be in large, heavy suits, which was exactly the case for Simon Pegg.

Pegg recently revealed on The Graham Norton Show that his role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where he played Unkar Plutt, made him sweat quite a bit. Plutt is best remembered as the junk dealer on Jakku who attempted to steal BB-8 from Rey, as well as conning people out of bread portions. Pegg was unrecognizable in his role, seeing as he was covered head to toe in a costume that was boiling:

“Unkar Plutt. He was a junk dealer on the planet Jakku and I was wearing that in 50-degree heat [122 degrees Fahrenheit] and I had these big rubber-like silicone guantlets on my fingers and when I took them off I could pour the sweat out,”

Pegg’s statements make complete sense considering Jakku was shot on location in Abu Dhabi, which is in the United Arab Emirates.

There’s no idea as to when fans can catch another glimpse of Unkar Plutt, but Star Wars: The Last Jedi is still playing in theatres.
