First Synopsis For Simu Liu’s ‘Shang-Chi’ & Start Date May Be Revealed

The first synopsis and production start date for Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings may have been revealed.

Marvel Studios’ plans for the fourth phase of its cinematic universe involve a push for more diversity and one of the projects included in its upcoming slate is Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The project is set to be Hollywood’s first Asian superhero film with Simu Liu leading the cast as the eponymous Shang-Chi.

Now, a production list includes the first synopsis for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and it appears Simu Liu’s version of the character will have been raised under conditions similar to those of his comic book counterpart. The list also notes that Simu Lius’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is scheduled to begin filming on November 1, 2019, with locations including Austalia and Los Angeles, California.

Are you excited to see Simu Liu’s portrayal of Shang-Chi?

Introduced in Special Marvel Edition #15 in December 1973, Shang-Chi is a skilled martial artist who was raised in an isolated compound located in China and trained by his father Fu Manchu, a Chinese crimelord and immortal sorcerer who repeatedly attempted to conquer the world. When Shang-Chi was finally allowed to venture into the outside world to do his father’s bidding, he learned about his father’s evil ways and faked his own death before embarking on a mission to take down Fu Manchu’s criminal empire.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script written by David Callaham, Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina and Tony Leung.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be released in theaters on February 12, 2021.
