Former ‘Bond’ Star Sir Roger Moore Passes Away At 89

Sir Roger Moore, the legendary British actor best known for his portrayal of the iconic spy James Bond in seven 007 films has passed away after a battle with cancer. The actor and humanitarian was 89.

Moore’s family announced his passing earlier today, releasing a statement on Twitter.

“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce our loving father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today in Switzerland after a short but brave battle with cancer. The love with which he was surrounded in his final days was so great it cannot be quantified in words alone.”

“We know our own love and admiration will be magnified many times, across the world, by people who knew him for his films, his television shows and his passionate work for UNICEF which he considered to be his greatest achievement.”

Moore began his acting career in 1954 with The Last Time I Saw Paris before landing the title role in the television series The Saint in 1962. The actor would star in the role for seven years before later making his debut in the Bond franchise in 1973, succeeding Sean Connery in the role of Bond in Live and Let Die. He would go on to appear as the suave spy in another six films across the span of twelve years including The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, and A View to a Kill before passing the torch to Timothy Dalton.

Moore is survived by his wife Kristina Tholstrup and his three children, Deborah, Geoffrey, and Christian. A private funeral will be held in Monaco.
