It was then announced that Avengers director Joss Whedon would step in to complete the film through post-production and additional photography. Whedon is also attached to write and direct a Batgirl movie for the DC Extended Universe.
At the world premiere for Wonder Woman, producer Charles Roven spoke to Variety about the status of Justice League. Roven revealed that Snyder had asked Whedon to finish the film:
“We’re excited about the film, of course – but we were saddened by the events that caused Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder to have to leave and turn the reins over to Joss Whedon. He was already working with us on some of the scenes for that additional photography that we’re going to be doing shortly. It was fortunate that Zack convinced him, and he agreed to step in and finish the movie – to help Zack finish his vision. We’re excited about that.”
Warner Bros. Pictures president Toby Emmerich recently stated that although Whedon has stepped in to complete the film, the directing is minimal and will adhere to Snyder’s vision already set during the film’s principal photography.
Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J.K. Simmons and Ciaran Hinds, Justice League opens in theaters on November 17, 2017.
Meanwhile, Wonder Woman will open in theaters on June 2, 2017.
