Yesterday, new images offered fans their first look at the live-action version of Sonic the Hedgehog and the reaction to the beloved SEGA character’s new look has been largely negative. Sonic creator Yuji Naka weighed in the hedgehog’s live-action look and a rough translation by Twitter’s translation feature indicates that he has some issues with the design:
“I feel that it is important to look at the whole body visual of Sonic and head body and stomach. Did you not get a little more balance?”
According to ComicBook.com, an in-depth translation reveals Yuji Naka is commenting on the roundness of Sonic’ stomach and how the design is unbalanced.
The Sonic the Hedgehog film will follow Small-town sheriff Tom Wachowski and Sonic as they embark on a road trip to San Francisco in a race to recover the blue hedgehog’s rings before the villainous Dr. Robotnik.
Directed by Jeff Fowler from a script written by Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Oren Uziel, Sonic the Hedgehog features the voices talent of Ben Schwartz as the titular character and stars James Marsden as sheriff Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Mrs. Wachowski, Lee Majdoub as Stone, Frank C. Turner as Crazy Carl, and Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik. Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Neal McDonough, Debs Howard, and Elfina Luk also star in undisclosed roles.
Sonic the Hedgehog is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 8, 2019.
