‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ CinemaCon Footage Reveals Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik

Paramount’s second trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog at CinemaCon featured footage of Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik.

The live-action Sonic The Hedgehog film will find the titular hero going up against the evil Dr. Robotnik, with Jim Carrey tasked with bringing the classic video game villain to life. Jim Carrey appeared during Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation for Sonic The Hedgehog and told attendees, “I am Dr. Robotnik, one of the most intelligent men who ever walked the earth. It’s basically my origins story.” Now, Deadline’s description of the second Sonic The Hedgehog trailer screened at CinemaCon offers fans a hint at what fans can expect from Jim Carrey’s performance as Dr. Robotnik:

The second trailer, which Carrey introduced, shows a comeback for his hysterics on screen as Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, a supergenius with a big black mustache who argues with the army and James Marsden’s cop.

At one point, Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik informs James Marsden’s character, “I was spitting out formulas when you were spitting up formulas.” This remark prompts Marsden’s cop to reply, “I was breastfed.”

The Sonic the Hedgehog film will follow Small-town sheriff Tom Wachowski and Sonic as they embark on a road trip to San Francisco in a race to recover the blue hedgehog’s rings before the villainous Dr. Robotnik.

Directed by Jeff Fowler from a script written by Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Oren Uziel, Sonic the Hedgehog features the voices talent of Ben Schwartz as the titular character and stars James Marsden as sheriff Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Mrs. Wachowski, Lee Majdoub as Stone, Frank C. Turner as Crazy Carl, and Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik. Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Neal McDonough, Debs Howard, and Elfina Luk also star in undisclosed roles.

Sonic the Hedgehog is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 8, 2019.
