Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most iconic and beloved video game characters of all-time. Later this year, the Sega character will make his cinematic debut, which Paramount has just shared the first look at. Leaked images of Sonic himself and Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik have surfaced prior, but the first trailer offers a proper glimpse at the video game world being brought to life. An official synopsis has yet to be released. It’s known that the Sonic the Hedgehog film will follow Small-town sheriff Tom Wachowski and the titular character as they embark on a road trip to San Francisco in a race to recover the blue hedgehog’s rings before the villainous Dr. Robotnik. Westworld actor James Marsden stars in the film along with Ben Schwartz who provides the voice for the film’s Sonic.
Directed by Jeff Fowler from a script written by Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Oren Uziel, Sonic the Hedgehog also stars Tika Sumpter as Mrs. Wachowski, Lee Majdoub as Stone and Frank C. Turner as Crazy Carl. Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Neal McDonough, Debs Howard, and Elfina Luk also star in undisclosed roles. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice composer Tom Holkenborg, a.k.a. Junkie XL, will score the film.
Sonic the Hedgehog is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 8, 2019.
