Sony Wants Edgar Wright To Make A ‘Baby Driver’ Sequel

After the success of the first film. Sony Pictures wants Director Edgar Wright to make a sequel to the critically acclaimed Baby Driver.

Director Edgar Wright is a genius when it comes to filmmaking. He doesn’t have one bad movie in his filmography, and his latest film is no different. Baby Driver is one of the best films of the summer, being a hit with critics and audiences. So it’s not surprising that Sony Pictures wants to capitalize on its success.

Baby Driver is looking to outgross every one of Wright’s previous films and is shaping up to be a sleeper hit of the summer. Wright was recently on the Empire podcast and spoke about Sony’s desire to make Baby Driver 2:

“The studio have asked me to think about writing a sequel and it is one of the ones that I might do a sequel to because I think there’s somewhere more to go with it in terms of the characters. Baby has got to a new place.”

Wright went on to say that he doesn’t want to take Baby back to square one. He wants a sequel to be something new and refreshing:

“Most sequels you have to contrive something so they go back to square one, unless there’s somewhere deeper for them to go. I think with Baby Driver there’s more that you can do in that realm, and I sort of have an idea that if you did another [film] you would subvert his involvement in the crime in a different way so he’s not the apprentice anymore.”

Will Baby Driver 2 have a Bonnie and Clyde influence? Only time will tell, but I can’t wait to see what Wright has in store for the future. Stay tuned for more updates on Baby Driver 2, and check out our review of the first film here.

Baby Driver stars Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Jamie Foxx, Eiza Gonzalez, Jon Hamm, and Kevin Spacey. Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

Talented getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After meeting the woman (Lily James) of his dreams, he sees a chance to ditch his shady lifestyle and make a clean break. Coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), Baby must face the music as a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

Baby Driver is in theaters now.
