Sony & Marvel Studios In Battle Over ‘Spider-Man’ Director Jon Watts

Sony and Marvel Studios are in a heated tug of war battle over Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts.

It appears the battle for Spider-Man is far from through as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Sony Pictures are in a heated battle to keep director Jon Watts. According to Deadline, Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios are courting the director to keep him in the family. Jon Watts was only signed for a two-film deal and doesn’t have to return for the third film being written by Chris Mckenna and Erik Sommers.

News broke earlier this week that Marvel Studios and Sony have chosen not to continue their deal as Marvel Studios demanded a 45% increase from their original 5% deal. This doesn’t seem to be the case as Deadline is now stating that Marvel Studios asked for a 25% return from the profits and even offered to put up the same number in financing for new films under this new Spider-Man deal.

Would you rather Jon Watts go with Marvel Studios? Or would you rather see the director keep doing Spider-Man films with Sony? Sound off in the comments section below!

Sony is planning two more Spider-Man films with Tom Holland but the actor could be disappearing entirely from future films set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony attempted to extend the original deal which gives Marvel 5% of first-dollar gross but Disney rejected this after the Mouse House originally tried to negotiate for a co-financing stake on future Spider-Man projects with Tom Holland. Sony ultimately opted to cut ties with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who co-produced the last two Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland. The news comes just after Spider-Man: Far From Home became Sony’s highest-grossing film of all time with $1.109 billion at the worldwide box office. Here the official synopsis for the movie:

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, Numan Acar, J.B. Smoove, Oli Hill, Remy Hii, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Cobie Smulders, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is now playing in theaters. Stay tuned for the latest news on Jon Watts future with Spider-Man!
