Sony Pictures Closes 3 Offices In Europe Due To Coronavirus Concerns

Sony Pictures Entertainment has closed three of its offices in Europe as a precautionary measure following concerns that one of its employees may have been exposed to coronavirus.

The Wrap reports that a Sony Pictures spokesperson has informed the outlet that the company will close its offices in London, Paris and Gdynia, Poland for the remainder of the week. The decision was made “out of an abundance of caution” after a Sony Pictures employee traveled to an area currently affected by the coronavirus.

Sony Pictures employees at the three closed offices will be able to work from home while all of the company’s other offices in Europe will remain open, as the decision to close the other three is “purely a precautionary measure.” An internal memo to Sony Pictures staff reads as follows:

“The health and well-being of our employees is of the utmost importance. We thought it was important to share with you that one of our London employees may have been exposed to coronavirus COVID-19 given recent travels to an affected area. Out of an abundance of caution, the London, Paris and Gdynia offices will be closed for the remainder of the week, and employees should work from home”

The spokesperson informed the outlet that no confirmed coronavirus cases were reported.

In the United Kingdom, the number of reported coronavirus cases reached 85 on Wednesday. In at least three of those cases, there was no clear indication of how the coronavirus was contracted.

Overall, more than 94,000 strains of COVID-19 have been reported. To date, 3,221 people have died from the virus while over 51,000 others who contracted the disease later recovered.
