In a report by The New York Times a few days ago on Sony’s future in the entertainment industry, it was revealed that, in addition to Sony crafting out its live-action universe after the success of Venom, the company is also open to creating animated television shows revolving around characters that viewers first saw on Into the Spider-Verse.
It does make sense. After all, like the success of Venom and Sony moving forward with films like Morbius, the animation side of Spider-Man’s world is ripe for the taking. So Sony is striking while the iron is hot. Admittedly, the key word is “considering.” We don’t know yet if Sony will ultimately go forward with this endeavor. But given how well Into the Spider-Verse has done so far and could continue to do, this would be the prime opportunity to continue building out the animated world of Spider-Man.
But what do you think, though? If there were animated TV series based around Into the Spider-Verse characters, would you tune in? Do you think such projects could come to the level of past adaptations like Spectacular Spider-Man? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman and features voice work from Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, and Lily Tomlin.
The film is now playing in theaters.
