Sony Suspends Production Of Tom Holland’s ‘Uncharted’ Amid Coronavirus

Sony has suspended the production of Tom Holland’s upcoming Uncharted film amid concerns over the coronavirus.

Issues continue to plague Tom Holland’s upcoming Uncharted film. Since Sony first announced the project several directors have been attached and left the project during its preproduction cycle.  Only recently did the studio announce that Venom director Rube Fletcher would be helming the project mear weeks before the production was set to start. But now the project has been hit by the same issue plaguing so many other films.

According to a report from Deadline, Sony has suspended the production of Uncharted as the coronavirus continues to spread. What makes this particular case so ironic is that Sony was so set on getting Tom Holland’s Uncharted film made before shooting his next Spider-Man film that it cost the film its previous director, Travis Knight. Now production is being suspended for six weeks which will hopefully give the epidemic enough time to subside.

What do you all make of this new development? Are you surprised its taken Sony this long to suspend Uncharted‘s production? Should they suspend more films because of the coronavirus? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Based on the PlayStation video game series of the same name, the film is set to chronicle the first encounter between Tom Holland’s Nathan Drake and the fortune seeker and businessman Victor Sullivan. The film is reportedly influenced by a sequence in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

Directed by Venom helmer Reuben Fletcher from a script written by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins, Uncharted is being produced by Sony PlayStation Productions, with Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan producing alongside Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad.

Uncharted will be released in theaters on March 5, 2021.

Stay tuned for more updates on the coronavirus and how it is affecting upcoming films.
