Sony’s ‘Venom’ Secures Theatrical Release Date In China

Knock, knock, let the devil in. All over the Chinese film market, because that’s the case for Sony’s Venom. Having already surpassed expectations in the United States at the box office, Venom has now locked down a date for when it will be released in the massive movie market in China. The film, currently sitting at $378 million worldwide and $142 million domestically, will hit Chinese theaters in just under a month on November 9, all as a result of, according to The Hollywood Reporter, China Film Group and Tencent.

Tencent, for those unaware, is a Chinese Internet investment conglomerate which partook in a huge marketing campaign for Venom, which will swing into theaters right after the recent Predator film, which opens in China in just a over a week from now on October 26. So Sony has more to look forward to on the box office front.

Given the success of Venom at the box office domestically, how well do you see the film faring with Chinese audiences? Do you believe it will land? Any guesses or estimates to how much it could rake in with the Chinese film market? Let us know in the comments below.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, and Woody Harrelson. The film is currently playing in theaters.
