Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ Spin-Off ‘Venom’ Back In Development; Lands New Writer

Well, this one happened sooner than anyone expected. With Marvel Studios helping Sony get their Spider-Man franchise back on track, the studio is once again moving forward with their planned Venom spin-off film. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the studio has tapped writer Dante Harper, who did re-writes on Edge Of Tomorrow and wrote the film Sleepless Night, to write the script for the project and will be overseen and produced by Avi Arad & Matt Tolmach.

The report states that the project is being developed separately from the upcoming Spider-Man starring Tom Holland and expected to launch it’s own franchise. Now, while it is being said that it won’t be connected to those films, I’d wait for some further details regarding that matter. I’d be beyond surprised if Sony decided to take ten steps forward with the franchise only to make a move that would take five backwards. There’s no details currently regarding which incarnation of the character the film will focus on or what the film’s plot will focus on. Are you excited about a potential solo Venom film? Which incarntion of the character would you like to see it focus on? Sound off in the comments section below.
